Curriculum Overview

Love, Learn, Live as One

At Bisley Blue Coat C of E Primary School, our curriculum is rooted in our Christian vision: Love, Learn, Live as One. This vision shapes the culture of our school, the experiences we provide and the aspirations we hold for every child.

We believe that education should do more than enable children to achieve academically. It should nurture the whole child, developing knowledge, skills, character, spirituality and a love of learning that will remain with them throughout their lives. Our curriculum is designed to enable every child to flourish, recognising their unique gifts and preparing them to make a positive contribution to their communities and the wider world.

An Ambitious Curriculum for All

Our curriculum is broad, balanced and ambitious for every learner. It is carefully designed to build knowledge and understanding over time, enabling children to make connections across their learning and remember more. We place great importance on ensuring that key knowledge, vocabulary and skills are taught progressively from the Early Years through to Year 6, so that pupils are well prepared for the next stage of their education. This reflects Ofsted's expectation that schools provide a coherent, well-sequenced curriculum that enables pupils to know more and remember more over time.

The Statutory Early Years Framework provides the foundation for learning, with a strong emphasis on communication and language, early reading, physical development and personal, social and emotional development. As children move through the school, the National Curriculum forms the basis of their entitlement, enriched through purposeful experiences that bring learning to life.

Inclusion and Opportunity

Guided by our Christian values of Community, Love, Respect and Trust, we are committed to ensuring that every child can access and succeed within our curriculum. Learning is ambitious and inclusive, with adaptive teaching and appropriate support enabling all pupils, including those with SEND, to thrive. We maintain high expectations for every child and believe that all pupils are capable of achieving success.

We also recognise the importance of developing children's cultural capital through a wide range of experiences, visits, visitors and enrichment opportunities. These experiences broaden horizons, deepen understanding and help children develop the confidence and aspiration to pursue their ambitions.

Preparing Children for Life

Our curriculum goes beyond academic success. Through our vision of Live as One, we help children understand their place in God's world and develop respect for people from all backgrounds, cultures, faiths and perspectives. We teach children to value difference, build positive relationships, contribute to their community and act with kindness and integrity.

Through carefully planned learning and meaningful experiences, we aim to develop resilient, curious and compassionate young people who are ready for the next stage of their education and equipped to flourish in modern Britain and beyond.

At Bisley Blue Coat, we want every child to love deeply, learn wholeheartedly and live as one, growing into confident individuals who know they are valued, capable and able to make a difference in the world.
